Guided 4WD and quad tours
Our guides take guests into private country you cannot reach on your own, and into the national parks nearby. Tours run as half day, full day or group trips. Creek crossings and ridge top views are part of the deal. Ask Ralph which tour suits your group and what to bring.
The Hastings River
- Platypus work the quiet pools at dawn and dusk. Sit still by the water and watch for the ripples.
- Swimming holes for hot days.
- Kayaking on the calmer stretches.
- Fishing. Bring a rod and a NSW recreational fishing licence.
Birds, walks and night skies
Over 280 bird species have been recorded on the property, from kookaburras to king parrots. Rainforest walks take in giant strangler figs. Walks can be guided or self guided. After dark there is no town glow, so on a clear night the Milky Way and the Southern Cross are easy to see.
National parks nearby
- Mount Seaview Nature Reserve is right next door. It is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. It is a wilderness reserve with no visitor facilities.
- Cottan-Bimbang National Park is a short drive west along the Oxley Highway. It has the 14 km Myrtle Scrub scenic drive and Maxwells Flat campground.
- Werrikimbe National Park is World Heritage listed Gondwana rainforest with waterfalls and the Hastings Forest Way touring route. Plateau Beech campground is roughly 50 km away, about 1.5 hours on forest roads. Some roads are 4WD only after storm damage, so check NSW National Parks alerts first.
- Apsley Falls is in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, about 20 km east of Walcha. It is about 90 km and 1.5 hours from the resort.
- Port Macquarie's beaches are about 80 km away, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes.

Where can I see a platypus?+
In the quiet pools of the Hastings River on the property, best at dawn and dusk. Keep still and watch for ripples on the surface.
Is Werrikimbe National Park World Heritage listed?+
Yes. Werrikimbe is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. So is Mount Seaview Nature Reserve, next to the resort. Cottan-Bimbang is a candidate but not yet listed.
How far is Apsley Falls from the resort?+
About 90 km, roughly 1.5 hours west along the Oxley Highway. The falls are about 1 km off the highway, around 20 km before Walcha.

The licensed bar and restaurant and the fire in the Kookaburra Room. Rain is also good for the waterfalls, if the roads are open.
